GLEN has commissioned a number of key research studies in recent years including the 'Supporting LGBT Lives' and 'Visible Lives' studies

Supporting LGBT Lives

The Supporting LGBT Lives study examined the mental health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Ireland. It was funded by the HSE's National Office for Suicide Prevention and was commissioned by GLEN and BeLonG To Youth Service. The study was conducted by the Children's Research Centre, Trinity College Dublin and the School of Education, University College Dublin. It is the most comprehensive study of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Ireland, with a special emphasis on young people.

The online survey gathered data from 1,110 LGBT people and in-depth interviews were carried out with 40 LGBT people. The Supporting LGBT Lives report was launched in February 2009 by the Minister for Health and Children. For a copy of the full report click here and for a copy of the key findings click here

Visible Lives

The Visible Lives study identified the experiences and needs of older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Ireland and is the first study of older LGBT people and their lives in Ireland. The study gathered survey data from 144 people and interview data from 36 people aged 55 and over from across the Republic of Ireland.

The study was commissioned by GLEN, funded by Age and Opportunity and the Health Service Executive, and conducted by a team of researchers from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin. The report was launched in November 2011 by Minister Kathleen Lynch.  For a copy of the full report click here and for a copy of the key findings click here.
