Parenting / Children

Although major progress has been made in providing legal recognition of same sex couples, much less progress has been made in providing legal recognition for children being parented by same-sex couples or in facilitating same-sex parents in establishing a joint legal connection with the children they are parenting. The Government have brought forward a Children and Family Relationships Bill that will also recognise and protect lesbian and gay headed families. This Bill proposes changes to parenting, to guardianship, custody and access that include lesbian and gay headed families, and is expected to become law by the end of 2014.
