Civil Partnerships & Marriages Abroad

- The Marriage Act (2015) allows for the recognition of marriages contracted abroad to be recognised as marriages in Ireland.
- The Marriage Act means that civil/domestic partnerships/unions contracted abroad are no longer recognised as civil partnerships in the Irish State. Couples with civil/domestic partnerships/unions contracted abroad will be able to get married in Ireland.
- Marriages entered into lawfully abroad will be recognised in Ireland as civil marriages.
