Information for LGBT Parents

The Children & Family Relationships Act (2015) provides much needed legal reform in family law. It provides for the extension of parentage, guardianship, access, custody and adoption to a wider group of people, including lesbian and gay people parenting children they are not biologically related to. The Act has not been commenced yet, which means that it is not yet possible to avail of it's provisions. This page will be updated when the Act has been commenced.

There is some information on the existing situation for LGBT parents contained in the Know Your Rights Guide. This will be updated as soon as the provisions of the Children and Family Relationships Act are commenced (made available).
