  • Major New EU Study shows daily life for many Irish LGBT People can be very difficult

    To mark the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) the EU's Fundamental Rights Agency publish the results of the largest survey every undertaken of the everyday experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the EU. 93,000 LGBT people were surveyed across the 27 EU countries and Croatia, including 1,625 LGBT people from Ireland.

  • Annual Rainbow Map of LGBT legal rights in Europe shows Ireland at 17th place

    The ILGA-Europe Rainbow Map for 2013 showing the legal situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people shows that Ireland is 17th in Europe compared to 14th in last year's Map. Ireland has been passed out by Denmark, France and Albania.

  • 1000+ Submissions on Marriage for Lesbian & Gay Couples Received by the Constitutional Convention

    Over 1,000 submissions on ‘same-sex marriage' were received by the Constitutional Convention up to this week's deadline. This is almost fifty times more submissions than on any of the other issues under consideration by the Convention to date. The submissions are running approximately 3:1 in favour of extending access to civil marriage to lesbian and gay couples.

  • Labour Bill to Remove a Legal Hurdle to Marriage

    Senator Ivana Bacik today published a Bill which seeks to remove a legal hurdle to marriage. The Bill seeks to amend the Civil Registration Act (2004) which prohibits marriage between people of the same gender.   • New Bill Aims to Remove Discrimination for LGBT Teachers

    A group of Labour Senators and TDs today (7th March) publish the Employment Equality (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2013. The Bill seeks to amend Section 37.1 of the Employment Equality Act to remove any prospect of teachers being discriminated against based on who they are. GLEN welcomes this Bill as significant progress and we look forward to working with the Oireachtas to ensure that full employment equality is provided for LGBT people and that no threat or perception remains that LGBT people can be discriminated against in employment.   Update Wednesday March 13th The Bill is to be introduced in the Seanad today by Senator Ivana Bacik at 5:30pm.  See below for the link to watch the debate live.
