GLEN'’s work on Policing & Community Safety

Over the past twenty years Ireland has experienced great legislative and societal change for people who identify as LGBT. Despite the positive changes that this brings, there has also been an awareness of the problem of homophobia and homophobic incidents. It can comprise of any form of assault, verbal abuse and/or bullying. It takes place in people’s homes, in the street, in the workplace, in schools and in social settings. Violence and harassment, perceived as homophobic or not, is a crime and should be reported. GLEN work closely with the Gardaí and other organisations to ensure that LGBT people feel safe within their community.
