A new Code of Practice was launched on Friday 18th April. The Code is an inspiring example of good practice that acknowledges the barriers that LGBT people may face in accessing services.
It was developed by West Training (the Regional Support Agency for the West and Midlands region) in partnership with GLEN to encourage inclusive service delivery to LGBT people in their communities and thereby reducing these barriers
The Code was formally launched by Senator David Norris and Michael O’Kennedy (Chair of the Family Support Agency) on Friday 18th April at the West Training offices

Prominent US economist Richard Flordia,
who has highlighted openess to gay people and immigrants as major factors in economic competiveness will speak at a conference in Dublin on the 18th October. GLEN has worked closely with the Dublin Employment Pact and Paddy Walley and Associates in organising the conference. GLEN Chair Kieran Rose will also be a speaker.

Aims
- To encourage participants to think through and discuss the issues involved in recruitment, preparation, assessment and support of gay and lesbian carers and adopters.
- To give accurate information, expose myths and explore the nature of prejudice as it affects lesbian and gay carers and adopters.
- To examine concerns about what's in the best interests of looked after children.
- To explore relevant research on gay and lesbian parenting.

- Explore the gains as well as the concerns that you may have about placing children with gay and lesbian carers and adopters
- Enhance your knowledge about the legalisation of homosexuality, age of consent, the Civil Partnership Act 2004 and the Equality Act 2006
- Review recent research findings which relate to outcomes for children brought up by gay and lesbian parents
- Examine issues concerning matching, preparing, placing and supporting children, their birth parents and foster carers/adopters
Taoiseach Opened Refurbished Outhouse Centre on July 16th
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern performed the official opening of the new and refurbished Outhouse – the LGBT Community Resource Centre in Dublin –
on July 16th and reiterated his government's intention to legislate for same-sex partnerships.

Labour launch Civil Unions Bill

Minister of Justice launches joint Garda/GLEN initiative
An Garda Síochána has responded to lesbian and gay concerns about safety issues and developed a new community safety strategy for the Dublin region.
Launched by Minister of Justice Michael McDowell this morning, at LGBT community centre Outhouse, the strategy will be piloted for a year before being rolled out nationally.

The Working Group on Domestic Partnership. Opened by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the conference explored
options open to Ireland and heard from a retired Canadian Supreme Court Judge, a British Law Lord and other international experts.
Senior civil servants, politicians, lawyers and members of the judiciary attended along with lesbian and gay activists.
