New Code of Practice for the Community Development Sector Launched Pride Flag

A new Code of Practice was launched on Friday 18th April. The Code is an inspiring example of good practice that acknowledges the barriers that LGBT people may face in accessing services.
It was developed by West Training (the Regional Support Agency for the West and Midlands region) in partnership with GLEN to encourage inclusive service delivery to LGBT people in their communities and thereby reducing these barriers
The Code was formally launched by Senator David Norris and Michael O’Kennedy (Chair of the Family Support Agency) on Friday 18th April at the West Training offices

GLEN Releases Annual Report 2006 GLEN Report Cover

The GLEN Report outlines the considerable progress towards legal recognition for same-sex couples and the very significant advances made in other areas including community safety strategies with the Gardaí, resource guides for inclusion and safety in education, and the huge impact of the Taoiseach’s strong statements on equality for lesbian and gay people.

Florida Comes to Dublin

Creative CitiesProminent US economist Richard Flordia, who has highlighted openess to gay people and immigrants as major factors in economic competiveness will speak at a conference in Dublin on the 18th October. GLEN has worked closely with the Dublin Employment Pact and Paddy Walley and Associates in organising the conference. GLEN Chair Kieran Rose will also be a speaker.

Taoiseach Opened Refurbished Outhouse Centre on July 16th

Labour launch Civil Unions Bill

GLEN strongly welcomes the Civil Unions Bill for same sex couples launched in December by the Labour Party.
"This is a major step forward" said Kieran Rose, Chair of GLEN. "The Bill gives same sex couples almost all of the protections and obligations of marriage".

Minister of Justice launches joint Garda/GLEN initiative

An Garda SíochánaAn Garda Síochána has responded to lesbian and gay concerns about safety issues and developed a new community safety strategy for the Dublin region. Launched by Minister of Justice Michael McDowell this morning, at LGBT community centre Outhouse, the strategy will be piloted for a year before being rolled out nationally.

Conference on Legal Status Of Same Sex Couples

Michael McDowellA landmark conference took place in Dublin on 26th May 2006, organised by The Equality Authority, GLEN, and The Working Group on Domestic Partnership. Opened by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the conference explored options open to Ireland and heard from a retired Canadian Supreme Court Judge, a British Law Lord and other international experts. Senior civil servants, politicians, lawyers and members of the judiciary attended along with lesbian and gay activists.

Launch by Taoiseach

Taoiseach's Visit The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D. become the first Taoiseach to attend a gay and lesbian event when he launched an important initiative at the offices of GLEN ~ Gay and Lesbian Equality Network on April 3rd 2006. Declaring that "sexual orientation cannot, and must not, be the basis of a second class citizenship", the Taoiseach launched GLEN's five year strategic programme to achieve equality entitled "Building Sustainable Change".
